Participants of the EIP WATER conference visited El Baix Llobregat WWRP and the LIFE WIRE and aWARE projects.
A group of participants of the EIP Water Conference 2014, which was held from the 4th to 6th November in Barcelona (Spain), visited El Baix Llobregat Waste Water Reclamation Plant (WWRP) (Prat de Llobregat, Spain), where the LIFE projects LIFE WIRE/LIFE AWARE were presented.
The Water Reclamation Plant of El Prat de Llobregat produces reclaimed water for the different uses considered in Barcelona’s water reuse scheme. It has a design flow rate of 12,600 m³/h and a peak treatment flow rate of 14,400 m³/h . This WWRP is used as case study for two demonstrative projects focused on water reclamation and reuse: LIFE WIRE (Water Cycle Efficiency Improvement by Boosting Industrial Water Reuse) and LIFE aWARE (Innovative hybrid MBR-(PAC-NF) systems to promote water reuse), both projects are coordinated by CETaqua.
During the visit, the participants were accompanied by members of the operational staff of the WWRP and researchers from CETaqua. There they had the opportunity to visit the whole WWRP facilities, including the advanced reclamation system combining ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, which produces water for different purposes. Additionally, the visitors had a tour by the demonstration site of LIFE aWARE, and they could promote technical discussion and exchange experiences.
