Water use has increased to more than twice the rate of population growth in the last century. The total water use for industry in Europe is 34,194 million cubic meters / year, which represents 18% of total consumption.

Although the implementation of practices such as recovery, recycling and reuse of water in the industries of developed countries, and developing countries are helping to reduce the rate of consumption, the use of conventional water resources is still predominant. This significant finding shows that the industry is still reluctant to implement practical water reuse and therefore demonstration projects are needed to boost reuse industries.
